Knox League is a brand new competition that is a little bit different to the traditional style pennant. Knox League was designed to cater for the time sensitive needs of modern society. However, with the difference in competition comes a difference in structure.
Here's a list of everything you need to know about Knox League:
Where?
Knox League runs out of Knox Bayswater squash centre, which is located at 3 James Street, Bayswater, Victoria.
When?
The competition is spread over two nights, Mondays and Tuesdays. Play starts at 7:30pm and is estimated to finish around 9:30pm.
How much?
Knox League costs $14.00 per round, but if you would like to pay for your season up front, there is a discounted rate of $120.00 for the season. You are also no longer required to pay club fees (if Knox League is you're only playing in Knox League) resulting in a further saving. As there are no suppers or travel, you will also save in food and fuel.
How is the competition structured?
Knox League runs similarly to the traditional style pennant, utilising the same scoring and team positioning methods. However, there are only 3 players per team for Knox League to keep the night shorter. Scoring is still traditional best of 5 games to 9 points a game.
How does the ladder work?
As there are only 3 match ups per night, the potential for dead rubbers increases. To avoid the scenario of people going on for dead rubbers more often, the ladder now works on a games first basis, instead of rubbers first. Each game won on the night counts towards your ladder score, with the winning team taking home an extra 2 ladder points. In the event of a draw on games, the night will then be decided on rubbers. There is a maximum of 11 points to be won on a night (all three players winning their matches + the extra points for winning the night). Even if you were to go on last with both players on your team before having lost in 3, you still contribute to the ladder if you can win your match or even just win two games.
How does the season work?
Knox League runs on a 10 week season, with each team playing each other twice over the course of the season. This is just like normal pennant, but it just means you're playing at the same venue every week instead of playing away once per team.
What about finals?
There is two weeks of finals after the end of the 10 week season. The team finishing first on the ladder goes straight through to the grand final, while positions second and third play off in the first week of finals for the right to play the team finishing first in the grand final. |
